It's a trap!

Other than the "What the hell's a Aluminum Falcon?" sketch, this was my favorite on Robot Chicken Star Wars special.

Summer guilty pleasure

While my friend Lori has some top quality shows picked out for summer viewing on her blog, let me fill you in on this guilty pleasure if mine.

Bargain Hunt.

It's on in the early morning on BBC America. I can't stop watching. Two teams get @ 200 pounds each and go off and buy 3 items of some decent antiques, or junk depending on how you look at it.With the help of an antiques expert, of course.
Then they auction the items hoping to make a profit.
What tickles me is 90% of the contestants never win anything. If they do make a profit it's usually 20-40 pounds. Once or twice, a team will win a couple of hundred. But still, it's amusing to me that people would go to a lot of trouble of hunting and haggling with shoppers hoping to make a small profit in the end . I would get a headache.
But what I do like about it is that it's just like Good Eats.Junk tv that's informative. The experts on the show discuss the items that were selected and point out history behind the antiques, noting particular craftsmanship. Or lack of. Then they predict if the contestant picked a bargain. All this naturally sparks my Cliff Clavin love for useless knowledge.
Plus I love the host [pic above] David Dickinson and his style of clothing. He's lost somewhere in the late 70's. And I don't think he cares. Good for him.

Newsflash

Spotted at my local Ralph's supermarket: Martin Landau. Yes, that Martin Landau of North by North West, Mission Impossible, Space 1999, ED WOOD! " Karloff did not deserve to smell my shit!"

He and I literally faced off on one another like a couple of gunslingers in the frozen food aisle. He was interested in frozen peas.Strange though, he did not have a basket.Just a bag of peas.

My reaction must have been disturbing to him, because I thought the whole thing was a bit surreal. Of all the places, he shows up in this dinky supermarket that's no where near as hip as Trader Joe's or Whole Foods.Or even Gelson's.
Plus I kind of gawked at him, like "You! You don't belong here! You're a movie legend.Get out!"

Fava beans!

I thought this was pretty interesting, the guy editing this did a pretty good job with it.[ Ok well, you do have to get past the bleach white wall then grim dark wall stuff and just concentrate on the performances]

For me, William P. is Will Graham. He plays total burnout well, and it's weird.. he looks even more scared with Hopkins sitting across from him.

My sister sent me this quiz. How well do I know my old hometown of Roxborough, one of the suburb communities back in Philly. I got 40% right , but I could have done better if I went with my gut instincts

1. What is the name of the weekly newspaper?

correct The Review

[ ok, I hardly read the thing. It was a local paper and the main articles went like this: "Manayunk Book Club has bake sale at St. Lucy's". Not that exciting]

2. Although you never need an excuse to party it up in the "Borough", What is the 1 unofficial party day of the year?

[I should have said Woolworths, because I do remember it. One of my childhood playmates used to shoplift his Kenner Star Wars action figures there while I just mildy freaked out and watched]
