remake a comin'
This movie was on the other night. It's one of my favorites. Now I just read from imdb.com that a remake is on the way. Not surprised at all, but it'll be hard to top Chris Sarandon. He was great. Just the right amount of charm, even a bit of sympathy and scary as heck without the need for make up.
Speaking of scary make up, I love the way the scare factor builds in this movie. Little bits of the monsters are shown . Not all of it, until the right scenes. For instance the last act when Charlie and Peter Vincent track down the vampire and get the upperhand until it turns into one ugly ass bald bat creature that comes back to chew Charlie's head off. I loved that. That freaked me out when I was a kid. Good stuff.
And who could forget the scene when Charlie's girlfriend suddenly needs a good dental plan?
Peter Vincent, Evil Ed..colorful characters with a lot of depth. This movie rocks.
Oh you're so cool Brewster!

Why it's Fright Night [1985]
A teen catches his new next door neighbor Sarandon vamping on some victims.
The only one he can turn to for help is Roddy McDowell who plays Peter Vincent, a washed up Peter Cushing like actor from the Hammer Horror films.
McDowell is the best in this, with lines like " Back! Evil Spawwwn of Satan!"
McDowell pretty much has to become the "fearless vampire killer" from his horror flick days to stop Sarandon.
You never saw this?
Ouch!
well not as bad as Chief never seeing Jaws

Yeah, I missed this one. Sounds cool though. How can you lose w/Roddy McDowall? They'll never find anybody as cool as he was for the remake.
