film review: Killer Shrews

For starters, this film is really awful. It's about people trying to survive on an island infested with mutant poisonous shrews.What's a shrew? Well, they are little rodent sized animals. But according to the genious mad scientist in the movie [who's been experimenting on them] they can eat like 30 x their own bodyweight...or something like that.
In this movie they can grow to the size of a collie dog.[which I think that's what they are, when we see the shrews run amuck at the end of the film]
The film begins with a young Sheriff Roscoe P. Coltrane from "Dukes of Hazard" arriving on an island. Before the career of law enforcement in Hazard county , he had a a stint as a captain of a small cargo boat [ in this movie anyway].
He meets up with a scientist , his crazy colleague, their gun happy hired hand, and the scientist's young beautiful daughter. So he decides to hang out with the daughter pretending he's interested in the wonderful scientific advances that can result with experimentation on shrews.Who knew that shrews are the answer to better living?

Anyway, something goes wrong because the shrews get big and when they bite you, you're dead in about 15 minutes. The scientists die early on, regreting tampering with nature as they choke on their final breaths. Serves them right.
The jealous and paranoid hired hand won't listen to the Sheriff's escape plan & tells him and new girlfriend to %#@ off and decides to run for it.

He ends up in a tree.

With a herd of killer shrews circling the tree. Ooh, should have listened. I think he pulls a Bill Paxton from Aliens and went ape shit crazy before getting bit.
So Sheriff & his blonde girly get under a large tin barrell and crawl their way to his boat, while the shrews are trying to snap at them..but they finally make it to safety.
When I was eight I thought this was the coolest movie ever.
